Saint Clar

The 62-acre vineyard at Saint-Clar Estate in Macclesfield is framed by a Tuscan inspired house and huge lake. It is a spectacular site. We work with Jon O’Connell here to source Pinot Gris and Shiraz, grown for quality not quantity. The Shiraz was planted in 1997 to the sought-after 1654 clone, which is now cane-pruned by hand for consistency and quality. All sorts of goodies make up this soil profile; ironstone nodules are scattered throughout rich red-brown sandy loam and yellow banded clay. We think its thoroughbred country up in this part of the Hills for growing bright, blue-fruited Shiraz and Pinot Gris that has an abundance of flavour and layers.
