We are about to begin the silly season, and it is often now that we look back at what unfolded over the last 12 months.....
Spring saw the release of our first Main & Cherry white wines, a Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and Gruner Veltliner, all from the Adelaide Hills. We have been blown away with how well these whites have been received by customers and the trade. We just wish we had more in stock as we are getting close to selling out all three varieties.
Fruit set at our vineyard in Cherry Gardens is flying ahead in leaps and bounds, and at this stage the crop is looking fantastic with slightly above average bunch numbers. The weather forecast is shaping up to be hot and dry for another summer, so disease risk will be very low and we believe the quality matches what we are seeing from our 2015 reds in oak.
We’re gearing up for the bottling of our 2015 Sangiovese. After a portion spent 180 days on skins in our ceramic egg which has shaped some pretty powerful tannins, not overdone but loaded with depth and purity. We can’t wait to see this come together. We are also bottling another new wine next year, a McLaren Vale Shiraz from a beautifully cared for, biodynamic vineyard.
We have cooked the budget on our new French oak order, so look out for some new Boutes, Taransaud and other world class coopered oak in the shed around February next year. By this stage Audrey will be walking and getting her feet stained red with delicious plump grapes. She’s sure to love vintage as much as we do.
